Behind The Wick – Interview With Maddy from Maddison’s Melts

10 / 4 / 1610 / 2 / 16

We so excited to be chatting to the super sweet Maddy from Maddison’s Melts in our latest Behind The Wick interview…

Tell us a little about yourself – what originally drew you to making wax melts and launching your own business?

Hi Guys! I’m Maddison (Maddy for short) I’m 23 years old and I am the proud owner of Maddison’s Melts. I sell a variety of beautifully scented 100% pure soy wax melts.

I have always been massively into scented products, candles, melts, you name it, I love it. I wouldn’t even like to think about how much I’ve spent in the past on home fragrance products, it’s easily a small fortune! I used to use regular candle brands like Yankee Candle but they never gave off the scent throw I wanted so I looked into making my own. I brought a small batch of everything I needed and they turned out great! They were such a hit with all my friends and family who then encouraged me to start up my own business making wax melts for others, so here I am now.

I always try to buy from small businesses now as I feel so much better supporting people’s dreams rather than just giving money to mass produced companies which are already well established and don’t need any promotion to get business. I also find small businesses take so much more time and care with the products they produce.

Tell us about the process that goes into making your lovely melts? What wax/products do you use?

I always use 100% pure soy wax for starters as its eco-friendly, burns cleaner and has no toxins which means it’s less likely to trigger allergies. Plus its longer lasting, soy wax burns cooler which means you can enjoy your melts for generally 30-50% longer than any made using paraffin wax which is always a plus everyone loves longer lasting products.

I also only use high quality fragrance oils that have been tried and tested before they go out to my lovely customers.

Tell us a little about yourself – what originally drew you to making candles and launching your own business?

My name is Louise and I’m the creator of Kiss Air Candles and with my sister, Laura we hand make soy wax candles infused with fabulous and unusual scents in our workshop in Cambridgeshire.

We had just bought a house and were spending loads of money on candles that didn’t smell when burning. So we decided to have a go at making our own. When we thought we had the perfect combination we gave some as presents at Christmas and things snowballed from there and we launched in March 2013 with a small range of nine scents. Read More

Behind The Wick – Interview with Pete Evick from Shining Sol Candle Company

1 / 29 / 161 / 28 / 16

We so excited to be chatting to our buddy Pete from Shining Sol Candle Company in our latest Behind The Wick interview…

Shining Sol Candles

Tell us a little about yourself – what originally drew you to making candles and launching your own business?

My name is Pete Evick, I’m a career musician / producer and have recently added author to my credits. For the last eleven years I’ve been the guitar player and music director for rock and roll icon Bret Michaels. (OMG Bret Michaels! Be cool Sam, don’t make an ass of yourself…)

During one of our breaks from tour I purchased a candle that was supposed to smell like a burning fire. I loved the scent but it wasn’t strong enough for me. After a few nights I thought to myself, I’ve never really had a hobby, I’ve been playing music my whole life, since I was 5, it’s all I’ve ever known. So I decided to see if I could copy the burning fire candle then try to improve it. In a single word my life has been “loud” and I think I was craving something quiet and this was it. Read More

Behind The Wick – Interview with Erica from pSoychedelic Candles

10 / 29 / 1510 / 27 / 15

We’ve been stalkers fans of pSoychedelic Candles for a little while now, we love all the pSoychedelic Candlesscents, the funkiness and all the purple! So we’re super happy now to be interviewing the ever so cool Erica for the latest edition in our Behind The Wick series.

Tell us a little about yourself – what originally drew you to making candles and launching your own business?

My name is Erica and I currently live in Oregon, in the United States. I got the idea to make candles when I was 22 years old, in 2010. I had just finished my second summer-season job, and I had no idea what I really wanted to do next. One day, while watching some of my favorite YouTuber’s videos (anyone know and love the Shaytards?), Shay received a package from a viewer containing scented candles. The way he positively responded to them and freaked out over the scents sparked an idea in my head- why not make scented candles?
I immediately started researching candle making, taking notes, and making plans. It took a while to finally get everything started, but after I purchased my first shipment of supplies, I was able to turn theory into reality.

I had MUCH trial and error to begin with, and it’s funny to look back on my humble beginnings. It has just recently been two years since launching pSOYchedelic Candles in 2013. Even though I am still learning new things all the time, I am so proud of the progress I’ve made! I am really excited to see what the future holds! Read More
