I gotta admit that we were sort of expecting Autumn type fragrances in the September box but we were actually really happy with the scents that were chosen, it’s nice to hold on to Summer for just a little bit longer.
So what scents were in this month’s Melt Crowd?
But First Coffee –
Sam – Sarah got her Melt Crowd a little while before me and she just raved about this scent, but when I got mine it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. From the name I sort of expected a super strong coffee aroma but this is more of a masculine fragrance, kind of like a man’s cologne with a coffee note in it. It’s actually quite a sexy fragrance, I reckon if this was a cologne, men would be bathing themselves in it!
Sarah – Oh hello! My favourite of this box. It’s a little coffee but it also smells more like amber and wood, there’s a very masculine side to this. LOVE IT. Want it in a candle. Petition please!
Thunderstorm – “Masculine and earthy, Thunderstorm forms top notes of ozone, melon and soil, leading to a floral heart and woody base notes of patchouli, peat and amber.”
Sarah – Not a favourite if I’m honest. I’m not the greatest fan of big thunderstorms anyway and clearly I’m not a fan of the scent of one either. I was expecting a fresh rain type scent but this isn’t very pleasant. Much like a storm I guess.
Sam – I have to say I have never smelled anything like this scent before. It’s very unusual. I definitely can smell the peat and the soil elements and weirdly enough I can smell some watery elements, like damp ground after it rains.
Thunderstorm wouldn’t be a scent I would personally go for, but I think that anyone who likes quite earthy fragrances would love this.
Sam – This is a Flamingo scent that I have been very curious about for a long time but have never actually purchased. I LOVE marshmallow and crave marshmallow scents all the time but rose scents are generally a big no-no for me. After finally getting to try Rose & Marshmallow, I’m kicking myself for never buying it before.
It’s sweet and creamy and the floral notes just add a sort of femininity to the fragrance. The fruity notes brighten it up. It’s light and delicate and just fabulous. Highly recommend this scent, I think it would make a great scent choice for gifts.
Sarah – My nose always crinkles up at the thought of rose. It’s just not for me. This scent is much sweeter, and I love the cherrylicious (totally a word) style of this. The rose accompanies it all perfectly and I don’t have to crinkle my nose up!
Macaroon & Almond – “Delightful and sugary, Macaroon & Almond is a creamy, edible smelling almond accord with dominant notes of sweet cherry and a hint of smooth coconut.”
Sarah – I’ve been loving this scent from various vendors recently. This is one of the stronger ones, which I love. Can easily scent the whole house with this one.
Sam – I’ve had this scent before from Flamingo Candles, but I’m more than happy to try it again. It reminds me of our trip to Paris and scoffing lots of macarons from Ladurée. It’s quite a luxurious fragrance, like imagine the fanciest, poshest cherry bakewell tart ever, definitely one of my favourites.
Strawberries & Champagne – “Rich and sweet Strawberries ‘n’ Champagne is a blend of fruity strawberry juice with green top notes and a sweet, malty, champagne base.”
Sam – This smells like strawberry candies to me, like strawberry Starburst or those Giant Strawbs jellies, it’s so freakin good! I probably wouldn’t have bought this scent before as I don’t like champagne but now it’s definitely going on my shopping list.
Sarah – Yum. It’s a very sparkly and fizzy fruity explosion. It is quite heady for me so I’d definitely break this one up a bit.
Sarah – I’ve had this before. I like it but I probably only use it as a mix with other scents like cheesecake crunch. Its fine on its own but I feel it needs something else to make it a bit more scrummy.
Sam – I love apple scents, y’all know this by now, this particular one is in a league of it’s own, it’s so unique. It smells like a basket of freshly picked granny smith apples, stems, leaves and all.
The lemon and mandarin really come out when it’s melting and add to the brightness and the tartness of this scent.
Blackcurrant Jam – “Sweet and fruity, Blackcurrant Jam is a mouthwatering accord with top notes of blackcurrant preserve and a touch of soft vanilla.”
Sam – This scent is soooo yum! I think it may start off a new blackcurrant phase for me. The best way I can thing to describe this super strong scent is, have you ever accidentally poured too much concentrated Ribena in your water? Then you taste it and it’s like HOLY BLACKCURRANT BATMAN! Well this is like that, but in your nose. 😛
Sarah – Oooh I love this. I’ve been making a lot of jams recently and it’s great to have the scent drifting around the home when I’m not making any. Although it does make me want to make more!
Seville Orange –
Sarah – I’ve been looking for ages for a dupe for Wax Lyrical’s Mediterranean Orange and I’VE FOUND IT! The real pow factor of the juiciest fullest oranges is here. It’s a very happy, smiley scent. A very close second to But First Coffee!
Sam – Oh this scent is insane! I could smell it through the box! I just love it, it’s so bright and citrussy. You can get the tartness of the orange peel and then the sweetness of the fresh, juicy pulp. I wanna eat it! This is one of the best orange scents I’ve ever smelled.
