When I discovered The Fragrance Shop’s Discovery Club I was super intrigued. It’s a quarterly subscription box filled with lots of great perfume samples and money off vouchers and it is an absolute bargain at only £5.
If you haven’t guessed already, I LOVE perfume and when I saw that the Autumn Edition had a few perfumes that I wanted to try I knew I had to sign up.
So what was in the Autumn Edition of the Discovery Club?
The Scent For Her by HUGO BOSS – Get Closer to discover the power of BOSS THE SCENT Inspired by the art of seduction and the irresistible act of getting closer, BOSS The Scent for Her is designed to elicit a hidden seductive power that envelops the woman who wears it with a captivating allure.
Top Notes: Honeyed Peach, Freesia / Heart Notes: Osmanthus Flower / Base Notes: Cocoa
One of my all time favourite scents is peach and when I first heard about this perfume, I knew I would love it. It’s quite a fun, fruity fragrance at first, it’s very peachy, but a realistic peach type scent. Osmanthus Flower is known for it’s apricot scent and I think that really adds more zing to the perfume, making it quite a flirty aroma. As it dries the cocoa comes through adding a touch of darkness to it.
Would I buy it? HELL YEAH!
Pour Elle Natural by Lacoste – NATURAL is uplifting, authentic and warm. Creamy coconut milk notes come together with woody Orris in this uplifting yet refined scent that is discreet yet addictive!
I’m all about fruity and coconut scents, so I was excited about this scent, but after trying it I’m a bit disappointed. I personally can’t detect any pineapple or raspberries which is a shame as I think they would really brighten up this perfume. It does smell very tropical and coconutty at first but then it gets quite woody and almost sort of masculine.
I’m not too sure how I feel about this scent right now, I want to wear it a few more times, but I don’t think I would buy it.
Coach by COACH – A spirited, sensual scent that symbolizes a resolutely contemporary, independent woman. It is a floriental fruity scent inspired by the spontaneous energy and chic downtown style of New York City. A fragrance full of contrasts, Coach Eau de Parfum opens with bright, sparkling raspberry which gives way to creamy Turkish roses, before drying down to a sensual suede musk base note.
Top Notes: Raspberry, Pink Pepper, Pear / Heart Notes: Turkish Roses / Base Notes: Suede Musk
This perfume is extremely rose based, I couldn’t detect any raspberry or pear notes in it. The musk notes come through after a while but don’t mix well with the rose, in my opinion. I don’t think COACH really achieved the spiritual, sensual scent that they wanted to. For such a luxurious brand, I think this perfume smells very cheap.
Would I buy it? Nope, and unless you really LOVE rose scents than I wouldn’t recommend it either.
Dahlia Divin Le Nectar by Givenchy – Reveal the Golden power While Dahlia Divin celebrates a divine and modern femininity, Le Nectar de Parfum is its purest expression and culminates its entire aura. The woman attains the apogee of her beauty and the pinnacle of her power. She leaves nothing but an enchanting scent of a rare nobleness. A trail of gold that coats everything in a raw and fiery sensoriality and enhances the skin with all the delicateness of gold leaf.
Top Notes: Mimosa / Heart Notes: Jasmine Sambac, Rose / Base Notes: Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Vanilla
This is the one scent that really surprised me in the box. It’s a very sexy scent. It’s warm, creamy, has some woody elements and is a little bit sweet. You can really smell the vanilla and the tonka bean. I can’t detect any of the floral notes in it which is a bit of a relief after all the rose in the COACH perfume.
I think I’ll be asking Santa for this one for Christmas. 😉
This Is Her by Zadig & Voltaire – Fragrances inspired by the brands DNA; two alter ego fragrances. Her, Him: Opposites attract. In their wake lies the elegant nature of sandalwood. A graphic attitude in black and white. Traditional fragrance rules shattered like perfume bottles. They create tension and tell a true story: the alchemy of a couple, forever young.
This scent along with the Hugo Boss perfume, were the two that I bought the box for, and I’m so glad I did.
Have you ever just known that you would love a fragrance before you’ve even tried it? When this perfume was first announced that’s how I felt and I when I eventually got to try it I was more than impressed. This perfume is unlike anything I’ve smelled before and is very addictive. It’s a little bit sweet, woody, nutty and very creamy.
I’m so hooked on this perfume, it’s warm and rich and just so freakin unique. My better half said it was a very sexy fragrance too, so that’s always a good sign. 😉
This Is Him by Zadig & Voltaire – Fragrances inspired by the brands DNA; two alter ego fragrances. Her, Him: Opposites attract. In their wake lies the elegant nature of sandalwood. A graphic attitude in black and white. Traditional fragrance rules shattered like perfume bottles. They create tension and tell a true story: the alchemy of a couple, forever young.
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Black Pepper / Heart Notes: Vanilla, Incense / Base Notes: Sandalwood
My man isn’t generally one for wearing colognes, he’s just normally a Lynx guy but he was more than happy to be my guinea pig for testing out some colognes.
When I sprayed this on him I was like WOW! Again, just like This Is Her this scent is so unique, it’s really in a league of it’s own. You can really smell the black pepper and the vanilla, it’s creamy and spicy and ever so sexy! Oh and it just lasts and lasts, I sprayed this on him in the evening and I could still smell it the following evening.
This is definitely going on my Christmas shopping list.
MAN Intense by Jimmy Choo – Jimmy Choo unveils a new fragrance for me that smoulders with masculinity, sophistication and an intensity that’s truly irresistible. An extension of Jimmy Choo’s debut fragrance for men launches in 2014, Jimmy Choo Man Intense offers a richer, more sensual version of Jimmy Choo Man.
As soon as I sprayed this on my man, I was like “quick, go wash it off!” It’s just too intense. I was telling Sarah about it and the best way I could think to describe it was, imagine a load of teenage boys in a patchouli field all spraying cheap deodorants like crazy.
For a cologne with great notes like Mandarin, Tonka Bean and Black Pepper, this scent is just shockingly bad. I think if it had some creamy notes in it, like vanilla, that would really mellow it out and make it a lot more wearable.
Overall, I’m quite happy with the box, I will be using my discount codes on a few of the perfumes and to be able to try the Zadig & Voltaire perfume finally really made it all worth it for me. Plus, there’s a special code in the box so that a friend can get a box for FREE! Sarah was really happy about this. 😀
