The Melt Crowd is a monthly wax subscription box from Flamingo Candles. Each box contains eight delicious Scent Melts. The individual fragrances are a surprise – they include a combination of old favourites, current scents, new yet-to-be launched scents and scents exclusive to The Melt Crowd.
Even though Summer has pretty much disappeared the majority of this month’s box made us want to escape to somewhere warm and tropical. So while it’s dull and grey and ALWAYS RAINING outside, we can pretend we’re on holidays, inside.
So what scents were in the August box?
Welsh Cakes –
Sarah – This smells absolutely gorgeous and makes me want to work in a bakery and eat ALL the cakes and pastries. I love that it is a very Autumn scent but I’d happily melt this all year round. Warning – it will make you hungry!
Sam – Right, we’re all going to Wales for some Welsh Cakes!
I think this may be the most perfect Autumn/Winter scent ever. It’s decadent and so spicy, you can really smell like cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg, but it has that vanilla cake like element too. It’s so warm and comforting and I’m just obsessed with it.
I Carried A Watermelon –
Sam – I’d say between the two of us, we’ve probably seen Dirty Dancing easily a million times, so this wax melt just made us so happy.
I hate watermelon to eat, but love it as a scent! I Carried A Watermelon is the fabulous fruity aroma of sweet juicy watermelon but it has other fruity elements too, I can definitely detect peach and perhaps some berry elements too, and when it’s melting a mellow vanilla note comes through.
Sarah – Firstly, LOVE this film! As for the scent – I love this too. I love melon type scents and this one is bang on up there at the top. I can also smell hints of peach and coconut which is intriguing because it gives it a more holiday feel than other melon scents I’ve had. Perfect for the movie!
Cactus – A fresh accord of green bamboo, cactus and olive blossom, enhanced by hints of black pepper, anise star, water hyacinth, bergamot, lemon, sweet orange, pineapple and peach with background notes of lily, jasmin sambac and freesia on a base of amberwood, oakmoss and musk.
Sarah – This totally reminds me of holidays! Beach holidays with a cocktail in your hand, watching the sunset etc I love that it’s a unisex type scent as it’s another to not get nagged about. 😉
Sam – This is such a unique and very complex fragrance, it’s really fresh and zesty. It’s a fruity scent but I think the greenery notes and the spices make it kind of masculine.
I’m definitely going to treat myself to a one of Flamingo Candles Cactus Candles available on Not On The High Street. They’re just so freakin cute!
Coastal Path –
Sam – Oh this scent, it’s so sexy! It’s a fresh, aquatic fragrance but it’s manly too.
Imagine an extremely studly, musky, surfer guy, walking out of the cool, salty, ocean water onto the warm sand with a tropical breeze flowing through his hair. That’s what Coastal Path smells like.
Sarah – Coastal Path smells like something sexy is about to happen. Yep. S-E-X-Y!
Another unisex scent too – winning!
Tropical Coconut Milk & Honey – Luxurious and creamy Hawaiian Tropical Coconut Milk & Honey is a sweet combination of fruity notes with fresh juicy pineapple, smooth banana, almond and sweet orange with a powdery, floral background of coconuts, vanilla and tonka.
Sarah – This smells absolutely divine. It’s smells a lot like suntan lotion but only as like a base scent. You can really smell the honey which makes it sweeter but not over sweet. You can really smell the creamy elements too. Absolute yum in a melt!
Sam – I was nervous about this scent because of the banana element but actually it’s definitely more pineapple than it is banana. The coconut and vanilla elements really come through when it’s melting and the almond and honey add warming, comforting elements to it.
Lilac –
Sam – Y’all know I’m not a big fan of floral scents but this one is quite soft and gentle. Lilac is a sweet, feminine fragrance and it’ll make it seem like those, luscious purple flowers are blooming right inside your home.
Sarah – This was the one I probably was more wary of when I opened the box as I’m not a floral fan. But I really liked this one! It’s not too overpowering and it’s a great way to trick having flowers in your home. Love the purple wrapping too!
Black Tea & Almond – Smokey and sweet, Black Tea & Almond opens with sparkling aromas of black cherry, bergamot, red berries and almond. Bulgarian and Turkish roses rule the heart, further developed with notes of liquorice and smoked black tea. Aniseed, tonka bean, vanilla, iris and patchouli form the base.
Sarah – This one has confused the life out of me! First sniff I got Parma violets and then much later on when melting it for a few hours I got the liquorice. I do like it, even though it puts my nose out of serious whack!
Sam – I really like this scent it’s so unique, every time I smell it, I can detect something new and different. I think overall it’s like having some cherry bakewell tart by a wooden fire with a mug of rose blend herbal tea. It’s ever so comforting.
WILD White Musk – A go-to perfume of the 1990s, White Musk is a warm and floral scent, with a complex blend of vanilla and musk and notes of white rose, jasmine and wood.
Sam – When Flamingo Candles first launched their WILD Collection, I assumed I wasn’t going to like their 90s inspired White Musk scent so I didn’t buy it, when I saw it in my Melt Crowd box at first I was a bit mehhh about it, but actually I don’t hate it. I like that it’s more sweet than it is floral, there’s something oddly comforting about it.
Sarah – I’ve never liked the White Musk scent on its own. I have loved it mixed with other scents and that’s probably what I’ll do with this one. It definitely doesn’t seem as floral which to me is a plus.
Overall we’re super happy with this month’s box, it’s one of the best ones yet, and we really hope that Flamingo release a lot of the exclusive scents full time.
