Aromatherapy 101 – Spearmint Oil

5 / 4 / 155 / 9 / 15

We’ve dabbled with aromatherapy here before on V&L and I’ve always been a fan of natural alternatives so we decided heck why not bring another element to our site. But if we’re gonna do it then we’re gonna do it right; so I’ve started doing a few courses so that I may gain better knowledge of aromatherapy and essential oils and be able to share with and advise you on what scents are good for what and any other handy information I might find out. If something that smells good can make you feel better, I’m gonna find out all about it and tell you. I’m super excited y’all!

To join us on our new adventure with aromatherapy and essential oils is the Essential Oil Quality Alliance. Quality is self evident. That is the motto of the EOQA. They are committed to supplying their customers with the best quality and the best prices for essential oils and they’ll be supplying us with essential oils to try out and help us learn more.

Organising Your Candles

3 / 31 / 153 / 29 / 15

How do all you other wax junkies organise your candles? How?!

I ask this because I’ll admit my collection is slightly taking over the whole house. I’m not really complaining but it’s just not very well organised and I’ll admit I’ve tried several different ways but I haven’t really found an idea I’m completely happy with yet.

I quite like this idea!

I bought some Tupperware boxes from Aldi, something like a £5 for 3. At the moment my Yankee Candle wax tarts just about fit into these boxes. But how do you organise them? By colour, alphabetical order, types of scent or do you mix your brands together? I’ll admit for now mine are in alphabetical order because I have created a spreadsheet so I know which ones I need to buy when I spot offers… yes, I’m that geeky!

Holiday Memories – Shells & Stones

3 / 26 / 153 / 26 / 15

Excuse me for this sentimental blog post today but I came across this photo of a candle Candles DIY Shells and Stonesin a jar surrounded by shells and I started to think about holidays I had growing up. I remembered collecting shells and stones, bringing them home with a whole load of sand (that wasn’t intentional) and putting them in jars. I saw the photo above and thought that it’s something I should still do and look how pretty it looks with a candle in the middle of the jar!

A lot of you will be off on your Easter break soon and I thought this was a timely reminder to start collecting shells and stones from your holidays and day trips. I love the above idea and it’s a great way to reuse some of your old candle jars.

I also thought this was a great idea for a beach themed wedding reception for every table. So easy to put together and not too expensive at all either.

So go, collect your memories and have fun!

A Caffeine Fix from Coffee Candles

3 / 12 / 153 / 7 / 15

Most people drink coffee for its taste and its caffeine jolt, but did you know that even just the scent of coffee has its own benefits.

The smell of coffee and coffee scented products have been found to help perk you up as well as helping regulate sleep and reducing stress.

With a coffee scented candle you can enjoy the same benefits of that rich and robust coffee scent without having to even make coffee. By simply burning a coffee scented candle (or melting coffee scented wax tarts) you can perk up your senses and keep yourself motivated throughout your busy day.

Combining other scents with your coffee candle or tarts can affect your mood.
With an added citrus kick you can feel even more awake and motivated. Sweet tones of vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut will give off a soothing smell and make you feel comforted and a mocha scented candle can act as an aphrodisiac. Read More

Scent Mixology

2 / 24 / 155 / 3 / 15

Using small votive candles or wax melts/tarts you can mix different scents together to yankee-candle-triple-holder-create custom fragrance blends.

We’d suggest warming two wax melt/tart halves together in any traditional or electric warmers or burn up to three votives or small candles together in a dish. You can use any of your favourite brands to do this as well.

Yankee Candle have a very cool triple votive holder which was made exclusively for mixology, we so need one! Read More
