CANDLES WITH CHARACTER "Three Caballeros" Candle ReviewAlways ready for a fiesta, this trio of characters includes Donald Duck and his pals, Jose and Panchito. They’re sure to have you saying ay caramba in no time!
A bold and spicy blend of orange and chili pepper.

I was sent four Candles With Character candles from the lovely Lyn from My Dearly Loved; the first was “Flick” a fresh cut grass scented candle, the second “Sleepy” a coffee scented candle, my third one is the one above, “Three Caballeros” an orange scented candle with a hint of chilli pepper.
I loved the first two candles but  wow this candles was something else. The best way I can think do describe it is, a party in a tin! Read More

CANDLES WITH CHARACTER “Flik” Candle Review

5 / 12 / 155 / 10 / 15

I loved my first candle from My Dearly Loved’s Candles With Character range (you can CANDLES WITH CHARACTER Flik Candleread my review HERE) but if you know me you’ll know that I generally stick to what I know I’ll love when it comes to candle scents, so when I saw that Lyn had sent me a fresh cut grass scented candle, I was nervous. But I’ve said recently that I feel as though my sense of smell is maturing as I’m beginning to like scents that I didn’t really like before and have been willing to be more experimental when it comes to scents.

“Back from his search for warrior bugs, Flik is right at home in the tall, green grass surrounding the ant colony.”

We all know, or should know, that you should never really judge a candle on a cold smell, more often than not they can smell completely different when melting and the heat can bring out fragrance elements you didn’t even know were there. That’s what happened for me with this candle.

CANDLES WITH CHARACTER Flik Candle ReviewNow I’m not saying that I didn’t like it on a cold smell, but I was unsure about it. But when it was burning, I quite liked the scent. It  was fresh and earthy and very true to life. It reminded me of playing in the grass as a child and making daisy chains, it also made me want to channel my inner hippy and go dance in a field.  I also found it had some creamy elements to it, which I liked.

Side note, did you know that the lovely scent of fresh cut grass is the reek of plant anguish; when attacked, plants release airborne chemical compounds which is what you’re smelling. I dunno if that’s cool or tragic.

Anyway, after being so unsure about this candle, I was a little sad when it was all burned out. But I’m lucky in that I have some more Candles With Character candles to burn and review so that made me very happy. Stay tuned for those.

Behind The Wick – Interview with Lyn from My Dearly Loved

4 / 2 / 1510 / 22 / 15

A true candle lover will know that there’s so much more to a great candle than just the scent; it’s about wicks, the wax, the packaging, how they burn, how the smell when they’re burning and so much more. Knowing that, we thought it would be fun to interview the geniuses that make candles, the ones that feed our addiction and make our homes smell amazing and feel ever so warm and inviting.

I’d like to introduce the ever so kind and sweet Lyn from My Dearly Loved. Lyn makes Disney inspired candles and other goodies. That’s right, Disney Candles?! How amazing is that? Two of the greatest things in the world combined!

Briar Rose, Rapunzel, Ariel and Alice.

So Lyn, tell us a little about yourself – what originally drew you to making candles and launching your own business?

Simply put, Dearly Loved began as a coping mechanism. It would be putting it mildly to say I went a bit overboard planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Walt Disney World where nineteen family members travelled to celebrate my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary just last year. Upon our return, Dearly Loved was born in order for me not to succumb to full blown PDD (Post Disney Depression). I was able to channel all of my creativity, from close to a year’s worth of planning for WDW, into my business.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but when you’re working in your passion it doesn’t feel like “work”. This couldn’t be truer for me, as I’m currently celebrating the one year anniversary of Dearly Loved.

Whenever I go on vacation, often times to Disney, I enjoy bringing along candles. I created my Disney-inspired, Candles with Character line to be convenient for tossing in your suitcase. Since all of my candles are in tins, you don’t have to worry about breaking glass, in addition to the added weight of glass jars when you’re on the go. After you’ve enjoyed your favourite scent, just pop the lid back onto your tin before heading home. Read More
