Our Top Scents Of 2015

2015 has been a truly wonderful year for the two of us and we’ve been blessed to work with so many amazing brands and been ever so lucky to review so many great products; so we thought it would be fun if we each shared our Top 10 Scents of 2015 lists with you. It was so tough for us both to just pick ten scents each because there are so many great candle artists and creative geniuses out there.

So here it goes…

Sam’s Top 10 Scents of 2015 (In no particular order…)

Sam's Top Scents of 2015

Mrs. Potts from Candles With Character by My Dearly Loved

Brimming with goodness in the Beast’s castle, Mrs. Potts is sure to impress!

The scent of this candle is freshly brewed blackberry tea. It has a wonderfully soothing aroma with its combination of sweet blackberries, earthy tea leaves and I can smell a touch of citrus zest as well.

I’ve been so impressed with each and every scent I’ve tried and reviewed from My Dearly loved and I seem to love each new candle more than the last, but Mrs. Potts is my new favourite calming and de-stressing scent, it’s ever so comforting. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Grape Popsicle by Pink Zebra

A frosty, frozen, juicy grape popsicle mess.

This is what my childhood smelled like. I lived in Canada for about six years when I was a kid and lets just say for those six years my tongue was purple from everything grape – grape soda, grape popsicles and freezies, grape juice and whatever else was available.

I’ve purchased this twice and just can’t get enough of it.

Peppered Poppies by Petunia’s Corner

To say I adored this particular fragrance would be an understatement. The scent brought me so much joy.

Peppered Poppies is described as a  fruity floral scent with a sharp peppery undertone, I most definitely got the peppery undertone but I also found it to be quite creamy and smooth almost as if it had a hint of vanilla or even something like buttercream in it. You can get a floral kick out of it, but it’s not over powering. It’s just a beautiful unique fragrance and may be one of my all time favourite scents. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Bomb Pop by Shining Sol Candle Company

Just like the all American Popsicle of the same name, this candle boasts three colors and three different summer scents. Guaranteed to take you to back to your childhood.

This is a fairly new scent for me but oh gosh I’m beyond obsessed! Cherry, Lime and Blue Raspberry all in one candle, it don’t get much better than that. Each scent is like a delicious fragrance explosion, they all just POP! Stay tuned for a full review.

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles by pSoychedelic Candles

Indulge in the scrumptious fragrance of Pumpkin Pecan Waffles! Featuring notes of rich butter, maple syrup and a touch of brown sugar.

When the lovely and super cool Erica from pSoychedelic Candles asked me what types of scents I’d prefer to review I knew for sure that I needed Pumpkin Pecan Waffles in my life!

The scent is a warm delectable waffle fragrance with the comforting, seasonal aroma of pumpkin and sweet maple syrup, and to make it even yummier, hints of creamy butter and toasted pecans.
Anyone else drooling right now?  (Read Full Review HERE…)

Ginger Nectarine by Swan Creek Candles from Old Stable Store

Ok seriously, we all know that a nectarine is just a shaved peach yeah? I’ve always loved the smell and taste of peaches and nectarines and I’m obsessed with all things ginger scented, but I never would have thought to put them together, but WOW it’s such a delicious and unique combination.

Like all Swan Creek products, this candle was just jammers with fragrance, even when my candle wasn’t burning you could smell it’s delicious scent. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Limoncello by Twig + Dot

Sweet Meyer Lemon & Sugar. Inspired by Italy’s delicious Limoncello drink. A bright and sunny citrus scent that perfectly captures the sweet effervescence of Meyer lemons with a hint of cane sugar. The perfect Spring scent. Sweet & Zesty. Perfect for lovers of citrus scents.

This was a limited edition scent from Twig + Dot and my gosh it was unreal! I hope they bring it back again.  (Read Full Review HERE…)

Three Caballeros from Candles With Character by My Dearly Loved

Always ready for a fiesta, this trio of characters includes Donald Duck and his pals, Jose and Panchito. They’re sure to have you saying ay caramba in no time!

The best way I can think to describe to this scent is, a party in a tine! It’s a bold and spicy blend of orange and chili pepper.

I love citrus scents, especially orange, I also like spicy scents and have tried scents like orange and cinnamon or clove but would’ve never thought  to have put orange and chilli pepper together, especially in a candle but oh wow, it’s such a unique and amazing scent. It has to be the most unique scent I’ve ever smelled and I can’t recommend it enough. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Raspberry & Salted Caramel by Flamingo Candles

Sweet and creamy, Raspberry & Salted Caramel is a delicious treat for the senses. Fruity notes of raspberry blend with anise, buttercream and vanilla-based caramel.

I had been dreaming about this scent since it was launched so I actually screamed when I first got it in my first Melt Crowd box. I mean, come on, it’s two of the greatest scents ever combined…GENIUS! It’s just so lovely and it’s better than I imagined. If you love fruity or dessert type scents then you will go crazy for this one.

Ginger & Lime by KandleWick

Bold and fresh. The sharp and cleansing note of citrus from the lime combines with the essence of the fresh ginger root. The two work together to produce an energising and fresh scent.

My go to adult beverage is Jack Daniels, Ginger Ale and a few slices of Lime and when I first smelled my the Ginger & Lime Reed Diffuser that our friends at KandleWick sent me, it reminded me of that; the luscious, warming, spicy scent with bursts of bright, tart citrus. Just a perfect combination of some of my favourite scents. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Sarah’s Top 10 Scents of 2015 (In no particular order…)

Sarah's Top Scents of 2015

Bailey’s & White Chocolate by Coco_Boho

A decadent mix of smooth white chocolate and creamy Irish Cream liqueur.

This is a scent I reviewed way back in 2013 but have purchased it again this year and I’m still obsessed with it. It’s sweet, creamy and delectable and ever so unique. Can’t recommend it enough. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Sparkling Pomegranate by Kiss Air Candles

A bouquet of grapefruit, lemon and orange blended with fresh tones of red fruit and a twist of crushed pomegranate seeds make this a lively scent. Hints of green foliage are freshened with a blend of crisp aldehydes to reinforce the sparkling top note.

I LOVED this scent. It’s deep, dark and fruity with lots of ZING!

Juicy Clementine by Knick Knacks Attic

Zesty tangerine, mandarin and clementine with a touch of lime peel and lemon followed by jasmine and rose.

This scent is the best full on orange scent smell and is so much cheaper than the Wax Lyrical Mediterranean Orange one I used to buy.

Bourbon by Smoulder Wolf

Inspired by the spent oak casks used for making bourbon. Spicy, woody scent with a light fruity touch.

The scent is full on bourbon, as you’d expect; it’s rich, dark and full. There’s nothing to take away from that bourbon smell and I love that. The woody element of the bourbon really helps bring that fruity side right into your nose. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Vanilla Champagne by Candywick

A beautiful sophisticated fragrance combining subtle hints of sparkling champagne and soft warm vanilla.

Vanilla is a favourite scent of mine but both Sam and I have said that we have perhaps grown a little tired of just the normal vanilla scent. This exceeds that expectation, it’s vanilla mixed with fizz and it’s perfect for parties or having the girls around for movie night. It’s simply gorgeous! (Read Full Review HERE…)

Spiced Pumpkin by Village Candle

Good cooks know the tantalizing key to great pumpkin pie, and we candle-makers are happy to borrow from them: spices. A moderate but enriching amount. Maybe some cinnamon stick, maybe some lively nutmeg, maybe a dash of rich curry powder? Light this candle, sniff hearty, and see if you can guess!

This is such a rich pumpkin scent with delicious winter spices. It’s so warming and relaxing. Perfect for the colder months.

Werewolf by Totally Tartylicious

Sexy and animalistic. Fresh citrus highlights sparkle around the floral heart of lavender and ylang in this sensuous blend. An earthy signature of patchouli and spiced wood leads to a base of warm animal tones. Leather and musk balance with balsamic undertones as hints of powdery vanilla complete the blend.

Even though I’m not a big fan of lavender or patchouli, I really loved this for the citrus and vanilla elements. I thought maybe that I might have got over my dislike of those two scents but no, they’re just ok in this!

Viva La Juicy by Wax Scentsual

I really like the way brands are putting popular fragrances into their wax products now. Although I admit it had been a long time since I had sniffed Viva La Juicy from Juicy Couture but as soon as I had popped open this scent shot lid, the memory of it flooded back. Wax Scentsual sure pack a punch in these scent shots.

The fragrance is described like this…

Top Notes – Wild Berries and Mandarin. Heart Notes – Honeysuckle, Gardenia and Jasmine. Base Notes – Amber, Caramel, Vanilla, Sandalwood and Praline.

The scent shot matched it perfectly and is perfect for summer months. It’s flowery but not too overpowering. (Read Full Review HERE…)

Vanilla & Tobacco by Glowhush

The scent of warm vanilla, a bit of smokiness and fresh pipe tobacco.

Everyone on the earth knows I love vanilla. I’m also very much into mandle type scents and this is the perfect of sweet and manly.

Tropical Oasis by WoodWick

The scents of tropical fruits and cool coconut with hints of endless white beaches & stunning turquoise waters.

I was heavy into the coconut based scents this summer and just adored this particular WoodWick aroma. Fruits and coconut… always a winner for me

We’d also like to mention a couple of our favourite candle accessories this year…

Matchsticks from Can To Candle

Matchsticks from Can to Candle

A bijoux tin can of approx. 120 strike anywhere matches, with the strike hidden away on the underside. The designs have been carefully chosen to coordinate with the candle range, making an ideal gift combination. The secure lid means little hands find them more difficult to open than standard matchboxes.

Sarah was sent some fabulous matchsticks from Can To Candle and she absolutely loved them! Every candle lover needs them.

They’re her favourite gadgety candle thingamy of 2015. 😛 They’re ever so stylish aren’t they?!

Yankee Candle Mixology Warmer available from Love Aroma

Yankee Candle Mixology Warmer

Bring a touch of simple elegance to your home with this ceramic melt warmer from Yankee Candle.
Simply place one or two unscented tealights into the spaces at the bottom and place your favourite Yankee wax melt candles on the top. As the heat melts the candles they will gently release their beautiful fragrance, bringing life and warmth to any room.
This melts warmer has a partitioned section at the top, designed for mixing and matching scents to create your own personal aroma blends!
Perfect for use all around the home and garden, this burner makes a fabulous gift for any candle lover, or a wonderful treat for yourself.

Even though we’re not great lovers of Yankee Candle anymore, their candles tend to not be consistent or well made anymore, we do still like their accessories and this has been one of Sam’s most used accessories this year.

Sam LOVES doing mixology with melts and I like that with this warmer you can mix and match scents super easily, which is great for those particular melts that last a really long time. The warmer is quite stylish and Sam has gotten many compliments on it.
