Could Handmade at Amazon be bad for your business in the long term?

Handmade At Amazon

So, I wrote this about Handmade at Amazon and I’ll be honest I’ve seen a few candle companies that we follow advertise that they had signed up but it’s nothing compared to the numbers of those who are on Etsy. I totally understand the loyalty of staying with Etsy and I do also get that moving to Amazon also brings in new opportunities for your business too… or does it really?

I came across this article and a few others along the same lines and alarm bells started to ring a little.

Then I came across this from their website…

So before I might have thought that a little bit of competition for Etsy would be good all round but not after reading all this. Your work is likely to be reproduced at a lower cost and your sales will plummet. With Amazon’s power of SEO your products elsewhere will probably take a hit if they are looking for candles on Google. Amazon always comes up first (or near the top) for product searches.

I’d advise caution with Handmade at Amazon. Sometimes those big companies might look all caring trying to support handmade sellers but they seem to be in this for themselves!
